LUCA FERRINI studied the piano, the harpsichord, the organ and organ composition at the Conservatories of Trieste and Udine . He is a many-sided artist and performs both as a soloist, in chamber groups and with orchestras by playing all the three different instruments. He plays as freely as possible departing from all conventional norms and can magnify the technical potential and timbre characteristics of his instruments. That has enabled him to perform in large European theatres (St. Petersburg Philharmonic Society, La Fenice in Venice, Cankarjev dom and Slovenska Filharmonija of Ljubljana, Vienna, Prague, Budapest, Bucharest, Zagreb, Rome, Philarmonic Hall in Ulan Bator, etc.), where he collaborated with famous artists. His repertoire is quite large and ranges from the Renaissance to modern times. His recordings are manifold and include violin and thorough bass Sonatas by Giuseppe Tartini and his pupils together with the violinist Crtomir Siskovic (some forty sonatas), of which he edited the part concerning the bass; piano works with Franz Liszt's latest piano compositions and quintets by Schnittke, Eben and Ramovz (recorded with the Ljubljana string quartet); as well as live recordings of organ concerts during the performance of "European baroque organ music", a cycle of over seventy concerts held in 2001 with Slovenian ancient organs. They include also compact discs for organ and two trumpets, solo harpsichord, duo violin and piano and duo double bass and piano. Finally, he organizes concerts, holds international workshops in harpsichord and in piano performance and is interested in composition, which he sees as a free tool of expression as any other arts (he is the author of masses, choral music and instrumental works).
